Background

In the summer of 2017, Brandskyddsföreningen (The Swedish Fire Prevention and Protection Association) wanted to make an impression during Almedalsveckan- the Almedalen Week; a weeklong Swedish political gathering held annually in Visby, on the island of Gotland. Over the past few years, the organisation has refined its messages and has become a credible and well-known supplier of fireproof knowledge.

Almedalen Week was an excellent arena for Brandskyddsföreningen to meet new stakeholders and partners within sustainability, digitalisation and safety issues.

Assignment

The association has begun to build a knowledge base focused on fire safety and developments expected in the future.  In 2017 they wanted to present their work externally. Brandskyddsföreningen had previously had the help of Appelberg during the Almedalen Week, and in 2017 they asked us to assist them again.

Unlike previous years, Brandskyddsföreningen did not have its own session in 2017. Instead, they wanted to meet representatives from relevant organisations, companies and authorities. Brandskyddsföreningen also wanted to gather insight and create initiatives as a result of the tragic Grenfell Tower fire in London in June 2017, because fire prevention requires cooperation.

Solution

Appelberg’s project manager held several meetings with Brandskyddsföreningen’s delegation, deciding on messages, communication strategies and identifying interesting meeting areas.

Appelberg took the initiative to contact organisers, press officers, PR representatives and politicians to ensure Brandskyddsföreningen’s delegation would be at relevant events, meetings and seminars. Each participant in the delegation received an individual schedule for the week, and possible subjects for their specific area of interest.

During Almedalen Week, Appelberg’s project manager combined PR coaching with external environmental monitoring and documenting of Brandskyddsföreningen’s presence through a number of articles and photo documentation. The articles were published across Brandskyddsföreningen’s own channels.
