Teknikföretagen (the Association of Swedish Engineering Industries) annually presents the Grand Award of Design in order to draw attention to commercial successes that have been facilitated by integrated and consistent design efforts. There is an open nomination process for entries and the participants are promoted with articles and films about the finalists, about the voting and the presentation of the winner. However, the website was unclear, the story and the content was vague, difficult to navigate and anonymous. A redesign was needed.
The recipe for the new site was simplicity, ease of use and brand building design. Based on customer needs and visitor statistics, Appelberg made an inventory of what content should be removed, retained, developed or added. A tree structure from the user’s perspective then ensured a logical flow. Finally, well-conceived content was packaged in a consistent form based on the brand logo for continuity and an intuitive user experience.
The Grand Award of Design’s new website is simple, clear and logical to the user. Engaging copy in a consistent, playful and sophisticated design creates a brand new home worthy of the prestigious competition. The articles and films of the finalists of the year, including those produced by Appelberg, strengthen the new profile. The Grand Award of Design has a new digital backbone with better conditions for reach and a SEO plugin that will turn the site into a powerhouse on Google Search.
